Lemuel Edward Stanley passed away peacefully on December 12, 2024. He was born and raised in Montpelier, Virginia to Lemuel and Rosalie Stanley. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Shirley, and his daughter, Lynn Boyd (Jay); three grandchildren, Megan Boyd Mittendorff (Kenny), Morgan Boyd (Parker) and Matthew Boyd and two sisters, Hilda May Hyer and Mary Ellen Cauthorn and extended family.
Edward proudly served in the Virginia National Guard and was employed by the Bethlehem Steel Richmond Plant retiring after 33 years of service.
He was a fox hunter in his younger days enjoying the chase and the fellowship of other hunters. He also enjoyed civil war relic hunting with his son-in-law and grandson. He loved the outdoors and after retirement became a full-time farmer carrying on the tradition of his Stanley ancestors. He loved animals, especially his hounds, cattle and chickens. They were second only to his family, particularly his grandchildren whom he adored.
A special thank you to Jesse Thurston, who helped him run the farm over the last two years and Neil Lang, who faithfully visited and offered assistance. Edward never met a stranger and will be missed by all who knew him.
Relatives and friends are invited to Edward's visitation at Mt. Olivet Baptist Church, 5583 Coatesville Road, Beaverdam, VA on Friday, December 20, 2024 from 10:00 A.M. until his Life Celebration Service at
11:00 AM. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
