James Rollin Figley

FIGLEY, James R., 82, of Doswell, VA, slipped the surly bonds of his earthly home on Sunday, March 26, 2017. He is survived by his wife, Sue Morris Figley; his daughter, Diane Coats (David); step-daughter, Bonnie M. Jordan (Dennis); and step-son, Arnold Morris, Jr.; brothers, Lewis and Thomas Figley; and sister, Marybelle Young (Bob). Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Palmer and their son, Dale. Grandchildren include, James David “J.D.” (Jamie), Courtney Nuckols (Shawn), Kristen Hayward (Christopher), James William (J.W.) Jordan, and Sheri Lynn Jordan, Robyn Figley, Erin Prince (Joseph), and Stacy Moore (D.J.). Jim was the proud great- grandfather of eleven children. As an employee of Taft Broadcasting’s Parks Division, he held design, construction, and rides maintenance management positions from 1960-1980. He was President of Figley-Wright Contractors when he designed and built the American Eagle Roller Coaster in Gurnee, Il. Jim was a licensed private pilot and enjoyed flying with a Hanover County flying club. He was a member of Yeatman Masonic Lodge 162 in Cincinnati. The family will receive friends from 5-7pm on Wednesday, March 29, 2017 at the Nelsen Funeral Home-Reid Chapel, 412 S. Washington Hwy., Ashland, VA 23005. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, March 30, 2017 at Westhampton Memorial Park, 10000 Patterson Ave, Henrico, VA 23238.
