Earl grew up in Richmond, VA attending John Marshall High School. He was a member of the band and enjoyed attending concerts and listening to big band music throughout his life. After high school Earl served in the Army reserve for 10 years and later moved to Hanover County where he became a lifelong resident and respected member of the community. On a professional level, Earl worked at Eskimo Pie and concluded his career at AJD Cap Company where he served as treasurer. He was a member and past president of the Hanover Rotary Club and enjoyed participating in events and giving back to the community. He was a long-time member of Fork Episcopal Church in Doswell, VA. In retirement, Earl enjoyed playing tennis, golfing, and croquet. He particularly enjoyed antique hunting. He volunteered as treasurer of the Hanover Humane Society for several years and loved the many rescue dogs that he adopted into his family, most recently Smooches and Nikki.
He is preceded in death by his parents, the late Russell and Nellie Orlene Godsey Griffin; his previous wife Ann Goodman Griffin; his sister Janet Driscoll; and his 4 brothers Russell Hord Griffin Jr., Charles Sidney Griffin, Horace Rudolph Griffin, and Anthony Cornell Griffin. Earl is survived by his wife of 22 years, Mary Anne Beazley Griffin; step-son John Coffey; daughter-in-law Michelle Coffey; and granddaughter Megan Coffey of Beaverdam, VA. Earl is also survived by an extensive extended family consisting of many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 2 pm on Sunday, November 13, 2022, at The Fork Episcopal Church, 12566 Old Ridge Rd, Doswell, VA 23047.
