I was a friend of DeShawn at OKMS and HHS. He was a nice soul with a great personality. He had a sense of humor that invigorated and lit up any room he was in.  I enjoyed eating lunch with him and our other friend, Jose, and he was an academic pleasure to have in Oceanography class. May he rest in eternal peace.

I knew Deshawn from my interactions with him in my role as an administrator at HHS. Whether it was having chats with him in my office about his future plans, a smile and a wave in the hallway as he passed by, or in working with him when he asked about taking EMT in the Specialty Center, Deshawn was always kind and polite. Even when he wasn’t having the best day he still maintained a positive attitude with me and those around him. It’s hard to believe that only a few months ago I was preparing to call his name at graduation and now he’s gone. I hope his family finds peace in knowing that he lives in the thoughts of many. 

Deshawn was a student of mine  and I truly enjoyed the time I had with him throughout his high school years.  I saw him daily, getting in his laps around the school- sitting in class was not his thing; throughout his years at HHS, he always did what he needed to do and was a good student who always found most of what I said interesting.  He was a kind and gentle soul and I am so sorry to hear that the Lord has taken him far too soon.  God must have larger plans for him, and it is for this reason, I can somewhat understand something that is so incomprehensible.  I wish that I would have kept one of your drawings or could pass you once again in the halls for a chat...until we meet again, Deshawn-As your name implies, you are an Angel- may you guide us to your light one day.  Peace to you and your family.
