He was active in amateur radio from the 1950s and assisted with amateur radio community projects in northeast Kansas and Northwest Missouri as a member of the Pilot Knob Amateur Radio Club. Dan was an accomplished film photographer, setting up a dark room in his home to develop black and white as well as color film in the 1970s and photographing numerous weddings, dances and similar events.
Dan is preceded in death by his second wife, Sharon Kay (Ruch) Grady (2003), his parents, Daniel John Dempsey (2003), Ralph Edward Andrea (1992) and Doris Marie (Hodge) Andrea (2010), and son-in-law, Terry Randall Moss (2020).
