Raymond was born February 26, 1956 in Guam to Pedro and Rosario (Castro) Mateo. Raymond was employed at Custom Hoist for 40 plus years. A man of faith, a devoted husband, brother, father and grandfather, Raymond centered his life around his family and spending time with them brought him great joy. Spending time fishing and on his pontoon at Charles Mill Lake, and grilling were some of Raymond’s favorite summer time memories. He loved the thrill and adventure of his casino trips, gambling and playing the lottery. He enjoyed card games, Texas Hold’em, and quarter-nickle-dime. He was a sports fan and could be found cheering for the Cleveland Browns, Cleveland Cavs, Cleveland Indians, and the Ohio State Buckeyes.
Raymond is survived by his children, Chastity (Jimmy) Steward, Monica Mateo (Fiancee, Chris Evege), Andrea (Bryan) Steffen, and Joshua (Molly) Mateo; his grandchildren, Jacob and Brandon Ford, Christian (Stephanie) Derr, Alexis (Roderick) McDuffie, Alex Steffen, Emma (Riley) Dunham, and Avery, Adon, and Asher Mateo; his siblings, Paul, Francis, Allen, Joe, Frank, Jessie, Nick, and Cathy Mateo; and numerous nieces and nephews In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Susan (Wilson) Mateo; sisters, Judy and Rose; brother, Danny Mateo; and his nephews, Steven and Curtis Mateo.
Family and friends may visit from 1:00-3:00 pm and 5:00-7:00 pm on Monday, January 22, 2024 at Wappner Funeral Directors-Ashland, 308 Claremont Ave.
