Richard is survived by his loving wife of 15 years, Laura Rogers; his son John D. Rogers and his husband Scott P. Lawry of San Diego, Ca; his sons mother Cleona Jean Blaser of San Diego, Ca; brother Larry Rogers and his wife Carolyn Rogers of Andover, New York; niece Doreen Joyce of Kentucky and nephew Michael Rogers of Florida.
Richard was born on December 3rd, 1942 in Indianapolis, Indiana to Clayton and Helen Rogers. Shortly after his birth the family relocated to Western New York where he attended and graduated from Greenwood High School located in the city of Greenwood New York. He grew up in Andover New York where he met and eventually married Cleon Jean Blaser. The two later re located to Albuquerque, New Mexico. There he was employed by The Albuquerque Door Co and later spent many years employed by Premier Builders for much of his career.
He later relocated to the Denver Metro area and spent his remaining years in Castle Rock, Co. There he met and married his beloved Laura.
Richard was an active member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles organization. He was an avid fisherman, boating enthusiast in his earlier years as well as hunter and all-around outdoorsman. Some of his favorite past times were collecting golf balls from a nearby golf course where he would clean and resell these balls presumably at some points selling them to very golfers that lost them.
He was an experienced and successful gardener, his summer gardens in the back yard were truly a thing of beauty. He was also an accomplished bowler who was passionate about the sport and was well known in the local “allies” for his great skill.
Always engaging and ready with a joke, Richard was well known to his neighbors and other members of the surrounding area.
Richard will be greatly missed by his family, but it needs to be noted that he has also left a giant void in the hearts of those who knew him around the community, as he is remembered for his kindness and charitable philanthropic endeavors.
Richards family would also like to extend their heartfelt thanks to those passersby, who on that fateful night spotted Richard by the side of the road in the dark. They immediately called 911 and when the ambulance arrived were found to be administering CPR. Richard passed in route to the hospital. Again, all praise to these gallant strangers for their kindness and efforts.
Services will be held at a future date in Castle Rock as well as Andover with internment in Andover, New York.
In lieu of flowers the family is asking for contributions via the “Gofundme” web site to assist in funeral arrangements and expenses. Please go to, http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/neptune-society/obituary.aspx?n=Richard-Rogers&lc=1903&pid=195747315&mid=9090798
