Johann was born in Fort Collins, Colorado on January 23, 1939 to Henry and Lydia Deines. He graduated from Loveland High School in Loveland, Colorado in 1957. He went on to attend Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut, and graduated in 1961 with a degree in Industrial Engineering. Johann was a singer and music lover and, while at Yale, a member of the a Capella singing group, The Alley Cats.
After college, Johann enlisted in the Navy and served as a commissioned officer until 1962.
Yo was an avid golfer, who loved to play golf with his family and encouraged them to excel in the sport. Yo also enjoyed watching and rooting for all of his hometown Denver teams - the Broncos, the Nuggets, the Rockies, and the Avalanche. In addition to golf and other sports, Yo loved animals, especially dogs.
Johann had a wonderful sense of humor and happy nature which enriched the lives of everyone who knew him.
Survivors include daughter Courtney Deines-Jones with husband Joachim Isbert; daughter Bethany Deines; son Timothy Deines; sisters Dorothea and Olinda; brother Karl; and numerous special nieces, nephews, and other relations.
