Walter Joe Hampton was born on July 8, 1936 in Annapolis Missouri to Vernie and Ruby (Kelly) Hampton. Joe passed from this life to eternal life with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on January 31, 2024.
Joe is survived by his wife of 64 years, Erma (Jones) Hampton, a daughter and son-in-law, Sherry (Bill) Byrd, his grandchildren, Brandon (Nicole) Byrd and Lloyd (Ashley) Byrd, five great grandchildren, Lillian, Ezra, Lynnlee, Cassidy, and Liberty, his sister Loretta Steele, sister-in-law Ida Hampton, brothers Cecil (Pat) Hampton and Gary Hampton, many loving nieces and nephews and dear friends.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, two infant siblings, his brother Vernie Alton Hampton, his sisters Mabel (Jerry) Wind, and Anna (Stanley) Szczepanick, brother-in-law Bob Steele and a number of other family members and close friends.
Joe was a faithful Christian man serving the church as trustee, deacon, RA leader, CWT leader and in numerous acts of service for which there was no title. Joe was an avid sportsman who loved hunting and fishing. He used the time spent to build relationships, teach, and mentor others.
Joe served in the U.S. Army. His training included Engineer School at Fort Belvoir Virginia. He was stationed near Anchorage, Alaska for 18 months. His Army training eventually led to him becoming a Journeyman Mechanic for Union Electric. Joe retired from Union Electric in 1993.
A visitation for Walter will be held Monday, February 5, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Heiligtag-Lang-Fendler Funeral Home, 1081 Jeffco Blvd, Arnold, MO 63010. A funeral service will occur Tuesday, February 6, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 11:45 AM, 1081 Jeffco Blvd, Arnold, MO 63010. A committal service will occur Tuesday, February 6, 2024 from 12:30 PM to 12:45 PM at Peaceful Meadow Cemetery, 4408 Jarvis Rd., Hillsboro, MO 63050.
