Ruth Augusta Holdsworth was born 99 years ago in Ontario, Canada. At the age of 12 she moved to California with her sister Betty and their mother, Elizabeth Holdsworth. She graduated from the University of California in 1937. Ruth married a fellow student, William Klepper Rentz, in 1938. They bought a house in Berkeley, California where they raised four children and immersed themselves in local politics, education and social life. With a passion for helping other parents raise healthy, happy children, Ruth taught classes at a parent pre-school for 17 years. Long into their later years Ruth and Bill made frequent trips to hike, camp, and enjoy nature. They also travelled to numerous sites in Europe, South America and the Middle East. After Bill died in 2003, Ruth stayed in the family home for a few years. She moved into the Olympic Place Retirement Residence in Arlington, Washington on March 9, 2010. Ruth is survived by four children: Terry, Wendy, Bill and Bob, plus son-in-law Dennis and daughter-in-law Joan. She leaves six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Weller Funeral Home.
A celebration of a well-lived life will be held at Olympic Place Retirement and Assisted Living, 20909 Olympic Place, Arlington, WA on Saturday, May 9, 2015, 2:00 p.m., in the dining room.
