Gail Evans was born in Seattle, WA and passed away peacefully at the age of 87 on September 27, 2022. Gail was preceded in death by her husband (Buzz) of 55 years in December 2012, and her oldest child in May 1963. She is survived by three children, her brother and sister, a grandchild and numerous other family members as well as close friends she considered family.
Gail grew up in Ballard and recounted many fond memories of Seattle in the 1930s and 40s including adventures at Woodland Park Zoo and helping her grandmother take care of their chickens. Gail was always independent, walking to the park by herself at 4 years old where her parents found her feeding the bears. She moved with her family to Lake Goodwin in 1948, finishing junior high in Lakewood and attending high school in Arlington. She was a graduate of the class of 1953 from Arlington High School, and went on to graduate from nursing college in Tacoma in 1957 after graduating from Everett Junior College, where she studied art. She received her R.N. license in 1957.
Gail’s nursing career started as an intern at Western State Hospital in Steilacoom, and she had many interesting stories to tell regarding her time at this hospital. She went on to be an emergency room nurse at Arlington Hospital, and as the school nurse at the Arlington School District. She also worked for the Arlington School District in their Head Start program during the 1970s. She retired from nursing while at the Arlington Convalescent Center.
Gail’s hobbies included painting, drawing/sketching, reading, knitting, and gardening. She was blessed with an artistic eye and lots of creativity, and her artistic talent developed at a young age. Her love of trees and flowers were reflected in her paintings. She enjoyed spending quiet time with a cup of tea or coffee and a good book, listening to the rain fall. She loved the Pacific Northwest weather, describing the fog and clouds as cozy. She spent many hours in her garden, harvesting vegetables, creating beautiful flower beds, and tending to her pond.
Gail fought a courageous battle against Alzheimer’s and kept her sense of humor and independent spirit to the end. Donations in her memory can be made to Bristol Hospice or as a tribute donation to the Alzheimer’s Association.
