

He was born on March 22, 1931 in Sterling, Illinois to George and Mary Fulfs and traveled to Arlington, Washington when he was six years old in a homemade motor home making the Arlington area home for the next 86 years. Clarence graduated from Arlington High School with the class of 1949 where he was a starting right tackle for the Eagle football team. Joining the Arlington School District staff in 1952 as a mechanic and bus driver he spent the next 40 years working in the transportation department, eventually becoming the Transportation Supervisor for the district. He was well known for driving his school bus to Arlington athletic and activity events and was an avid fan of Eagle sports. In 1954 he married his “sweetie” Shirley Norreen McGrew who he spent the next 69 years of his life with. They raised 3 children, Leroy, Susan and Dale. He was a vital member of the Bryant community where he coached youth sports and played for community softball teams, served in the Bryant Fire Department for 35 years including 10 as the Fire Chief as well as serving as a commissioner for the fire district. Clarence and Shirley enjoyed the outdoors and spent a lot of time exploring the San Juan Islands as members of the Bryant Yacht Club and then transitioned to motor homes. They enjoyed traveling to many US states as well as doing some snowbirding in Arizona in their retirement. Clarence was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Dorothy and Kathryn and brother Clifford. Clarence leaves wife Shirley, son Leroy (Becky), daughter Susan, son Dale (Julie) and sister Hazel. He was blessed with 4 grandchildren - Nathan (Emily), Lindsay (Zach), Joshua (Bo) and Shelby (Josh), 5 great-grandchildren (Kieran, Connor, Kyla, Josie, and Tori), and his beloved dog Fancy. Clarence’s life will be remembered in a grave side service at the Arlington Cemetery on April 29 at 1:00 p.m. Friends and community members are invited to join family for this celebration and/or a reception to follow the service about 1:30 p.m. at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Arlington. The family would like to express its appreciation to the Olympic Place Retirement and Assisted Living staff for their care of Clarence. In lieu of flowers, donations in Clarence’s honor can be made to the Human Society, North County Regional Fire Authority, Our Savior’s Lutheran Church or a Hospice organization of your choice.
