Thomas Paul Carney, 88, of Arlington, VA, passed away on August 25, 2014 while temporally residing at The Virginian. Prior to moving to Arlington, he was a long time resident of Vienna VA. A Memorial Mass will be held in his honor at Our Lady of Good Council on Tuesday, September 2, 2014 at 10:00 AM. Thomas was born in Worcester, MA on April 18, 1926 to John and Margaret Carney. He attended North High School in Worcester and upon graduation he enlisted in the Army Air Corp and served during WWII. He went on to earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from Holy Cross College. He later served in the USNR as an ensign. After college he join the Central Intelligence Agency where he served as a Case Officer in both Europe and Asia before retiring after 31 years of service. After retiring he continued working with the Agency as a consultant for another 24 years. In 1982 he was awarded the Career Intelligence Medal for exceptional achievement. Thomas is proceeded in death by his parents John and Margret Carney, his siblings John Carney, Mary Ryder and David Carney. On January 7, 2010 Thomas lost his beloved wife Alice. They had been married for 59 years and had traveled and lived all over the world together. Thomas is survived by his children, Paul Carney, Deborah Dulitz, and her husband John Dulitz and grandchildren, Nathaniel Nolan, Stephanie Rinthalukay and her husband Saysana Rinthalukay, and great-grandchildren, Yasmin Nolan and Alejandro Nolan. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to Catholic Charities of Arlington, 200 N. As a testament to his kind and loving spirit he will be dearly missed by his friends and family. Thomas will be inurned at Arlington National Cemetery next to his much loved wife, Alice.
