Sue Wakefield Barnard

Sue Wakefield Barnard, 94, of Falls Church, VA, passed away on Saturday, February 11, 2023, at Goodwin House - Bailey's Crossroads. Born on July 29, 1928, in Andrews NC, the daughter of Dean A. and Lucy P. Wakefield. Mrs. Barnard lived in several cities in North Carolina, and in Jersey City, NJ, before moving to Washington, DC. She was a 1945 graduate of Eastern High School.

Mrs. Barnard began working at what is now MetLife, where she met her husband of 54 years. After having her children, she returned to the workforce retiring after 20 years with C&P Telephone, which became AT&T. In retirement, she was heavily involved with the Falls Church Chapter of DAR and volunteered regularly at the National Archives.

Her husband, Robert L. Barnard, died in 2003. She is also predeceased by her sister, Mary W. Baker "Ann", and one great-grandchild. Survivors include her children, Debra B. Murphy of McLean, Craig Barnard (Debbie) of Fairfax, Robert L. Barnard, Jr. (Nadine) of Springfield, and Scott Barnard (Arlene) of Arlington; six grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

Interment at Arlington National Cemetery will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Goodwin Living Foundation or Dementia Society of America.
