Sarah Catherine Fyock of Arlington, VA, passed away at the age of 17 on Friday, February 4, 2022. Sarah was born on July 18, 2004, in Richmond, VA, to parents Cheryl Bushée Fyock and Brian Matthew Fyock. In addition to her parents, Sarah is survived by her older brother Jacob James Fyock of Arlington, VA; paternal grandfather Mike Fyock of Richmond, VA; maternal grandparents Carole and Jim Bushée of Reston, VA; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Sarah adored her service dog, Montra, and her emotional therapy dog Hinckley, both loyal companions who were always there to provide comfort and support. After moving to Arlington in 2006, Sarah attended Arlington public schools and was a junior at H-B Woodlawn. She was a member of the H-B Chorus and Camerata group and an inquisitive and hard-working student. Sarah had a sharp mind, incredible memory, and strongly held beliefs that she was not afraid to share. She inspired many with her strength and positive attitude. Born with a rare congenital muscular dystrophy, Sarah didn’t let her physical limitations stand in her way. A girlie girl who loved skin care, makeup, and fashion, she had a fighting spirit. She tackled the many obstacles life threw her way with resilience, determination, and sass, never letting them dampen her spirit and cracking jokes along the way. Sarah was an avid baker who loved to cook, sing, and hang out with her friends. She was incredibly caring and compassionate, always rooting for the underdog. She loved her annual beach trips to the Outer Banks, spring breaks in Florida, Christmas-time, and dinners out with family and friends. Having spent a lot of time in and out of the hospital, Sarah had a way of quickly winning over countless nurses, doctors, therapists, and teachers with her infectious personality and positive attitude. She planned to go to college, attend law school, culinary school, and then open a bakery. Despite her short life, Sarah had a tremendous impact on so many lives and will be deeply missed. Her courage, resilience, and happiness through so much adversity was inspiring to all who had the privilege to meet and know her. A visitation will be held on Friday, February 18, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Murphy Funeral Homes in Arlington. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, February 19, 2022, at 11:30 a.m. at St. Charles Catholic Church in Arlington. A reception will follow at Washington Golf and Country Club in Arlington. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Cure CMD, Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), or the American Heart Association.
