Captain Robert N. Giuffreda, USN (Ret.) of McLean, Virginia, and Charleston, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on May 17, 2024. “Bob” was born in Brooklyn, New York, one of four sons to the late G. Anthony and Elizabeth Giuffreda. Bob graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1961 as member of the 2nd Company. He married Jeannette Elizabeth St. Denis on June 8, 1961, at the USNA Chapel after graduation.
He received a Master of Science degree in Financial Management from the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School in 1967. He served in Vietnam as CO of Sutter County (LST-1150). He also served as CO of Moosbrugger (DD-980), CO of William H. Stanley (CG-32), and Commander Destroyer Squadron Six. He served honorably, and with distinction, the Navy and his Country for over 27 years. As a civilian, Bob served as Executive Vice President of Seabrook Island, a resort property in Charleston, South Carolina, until his retirement.
Upon retirement, Bob enjoyed travel, sports, reading and exploring his Italian and Irish heritage. He cherished spending time with his family and his many friends, but most especially his adored grandchildren. He was loved by many and will be missed by all.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jeannette, and his son, Michael. He is survived by his brothers Joseph Giuffreda (Carolyn) and Richard Giuffreda (Lois), his daughter, Kristen Giuffreda McConnell (David McConnell), three grandsons, Nicholas Giuffreda, Robert Giuffreda, William Chapman, and granddaughter, Jeannette McConnell.
