Marilyn Dougherty was born and raised in Roanoke, VA the daughter of Howard and Garnett Kilgore. Marilyn graduated from Longwood College and was teaching grade school in Virginia Beach, VA when she met and married her husband Francis J. “Bud” Dougherty who was in a Navy Fighter Squadron at the time.
Marilyn was a devoted and most supportive Navy wife to Bud on his many Navy deployments. Marilyn was a loving mother to their three daughters Alison, Laura, and Felicia and a devoted grandmother to Laura’s three daughters Lily, Emma, and Avery and also Felicia’s children Henry and Cora Marigold.
Marilyn, Bud and daughters Alison, Laura, and Felicia enjoyed living at the beach and skiing every winter in Colorado. Marilyn was not only an excellent skier, but also an accomplished golfer. Her vibrant and fun-loving personality will always be remembered by her loving family and many friends.
A viewing from 4PM-6PM will be held at the Murphy Funeral Homes on Tuesday, July 26 followed by a memorial service at 11AM in St. Mary Episcopal Church on Wednesday, July 27. Burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery on a later date.
