I’m so devastated to hear this news. MC was an incredibly sweet and thoughtful person. I always treasured her guidance and kindness. Her smile and sweetness are unforgettable. Praying for God to comfort her family. 

I knew Maria in high school. She was always a shining beam of light and Intelligence and warmth. She truly cared about her friends and the people around her. She once approached me at an extremely difficult time to tell me she was sorry about how things turned out, and I will never. Ever. Forget that moment of warmth. It was a beautiful and poignant reminder that even in the darkest times, there will always be those who care, and who love with all their heart. And it was a moment that I will take with me forever. 

My sincerest and most profound condolences to her family, as well as to her friends, old and new. This is one light that can never be replaced, but one which will burn forever bright in the hearts of everyone who knew her. I know she is looking down on everyone precious in her life, with love and compassion. May she rest in peace. 

I have fond memories of Maria from all the way back in high school. We had an honors science class together. She was so bright, kind, and intelligent! 

My deepest condolences to the Wong, Lopez, and Plata families. May God comfort you all and may Maria rest in peace.

Thinking of my sweet big, MC. To know MC was to know joy, compassion, generosity, and constant laughter. You don't often meet an 18 year old that can light up any room she enters, but that was MC. You were so authentically yourself. Like a real big sister, you encouraged my passions, guided me when I felt down, and never missed an opportunity to bowl across any party just to give me the biggest hug as I walked in. You brought out the best in everyone. While we hadn't always kept in the best of touch, when my mind would wander to a memory of us, I would always smile. What an honor to have been your friend.

May you find the everlasting peace you were searching for with the Lord in Heaven. I imagine they've got rollerblades and a dozen Georgetown Cupcakes waiting for you.

To MC - You beautiful soul! Inside and out. Loved by so many. To know you is a gift that I will cherish and hold onto forever.

We haven’t had a chance to catch up in a while but what we were to each other we will continue to always be. Tied together by magical years of college and beyond as we figured out our adult lives. So many joyous moments - I can hear your laugh still and I bet you are laughing wherever you are because you are simply joy.

I am playing so many memories of you in my head. Like in 2011 when I met up with you in Miami and you helped me do my make up over my sunburn. Or we’d bounce around Georgetown and we’d take Georgetown cupcakes to Whole Foods to trade the workers for free pizza. You invited me on a trip to Colombia with your friends and I said why not and we had the best time. You were always down for an adventure!

I also remember you told me about your depression sophomore year and how life wasn’t always so cheery for you all the time. You are a brave soul facing life head on, putting joy and happiness onto others despite what you may have been dealing with on the inside.

Im so happy you found the love of your life and spent many wonderful years together.  We all feel you are gone too soon but you’re on your next journey right when you needed it. 
Now I believe you are watching upon your family and dearest friends and holding them near as you did when you were here.  You are free now. 

I am sending all my love, strength, and sincere sympathy to your family in this difficult time. May you lean on each other and the beautiful community she created. 

MC was my "big" in college. A ball of energy, I remember the first time I met her. It was big-little love at first sight. The day our sorority revealed our bigs, I ran to MC before I even opened the envelope. I knew she was the one I wanted. For years in college, MC was my person. She made me laugh, roller skating through campus, bringing me near 100 Georgetown Cupcakes. She was my voice of reason (as much as a girl 18-22 could be). To find out she is gone is a shock to the system. I am flooded with beautiful memories of her incredible character, even at such a young age. MC, I hope your next life is full of as much love as you gave us all. I love you, big. 

MC was one of the most human people I knew. She felt so deeply and loved so deeply. I think she had about 100 best friends. And she made every single one of them feel like family. I’m not sure if she ever knew how much she helped me. She and Mikey got me through one of the toughest times in my life, and anyone who knows the two of them as a couple knows that they will do and give anything for their friends. And they always did. MC was the brightest light in any room—whether she liked it or not—and to me she was always so beautiful, so cool, so funny, so understanding, so smart, whether she knew it or not. I remember the day she told me she was interested in Mikey. I was sitting with her at a bar in DC, and having long advised Mikey that he should go find someone who was actually into him (because again, I thought she was so much cooler than us—sorry, Mikey), I almost screamed. I was so excited that when she went to the bathroom I texted Mikey immediately. “DO IT NOW. ASK HER OUT NOW.” And from there, it was history. She wasn’t just one of my best friends, she was the love of my other best friend’s life. And for that I will be forever grateful. They were the best thing to ever happen to each other. Life will simply not be the same from here on out, but she has left an indelible mark on everyone she knew and loved. She will be with me always.

I still remember the first day I saw you at GW, when you brought boxes of Georgetown Cupcakes for classmates with big bright smile on your face. When you and Mikey started dating, I was so happy to see you guys because watching you two together cheered up my day. I will remember every moment that we shared and will greatly miss you. Love you MC and hope you found the rest with the Lord in heaven.

I was so incredibly happy to catch up with you, Mikey, and Alice last year. Getting to work with you was one of the biggest blessings in my life - you were one of the best colleagues I could have asked for and one of the most ambitious people I've ever known. While we didn't keep in touch too often, it was always a pleasure to catch up with you. My heart breaks to write this, and you will be incredibly missed. My sincerest condolences to Mikey and your families. 

I met the vibrant, caring, one-of-a-kind MC for the first time at the winery pictured here. It feels fitting because it was over wine nights that my sister hosted with her coworkers that I got to know MC & claim her as my friend, too. 

The girls would host wine nights- or in some cases, margarita nights with MC’s homemade margaritas- that went on for hours on end on work nights. Inevitably at every wine nights MC would ask to funnel our candles so they would burn evenly & so that we could keep the jars, & then suddenly the giggles would turn to deep conversations about everything- how to advocate for women in the workplace, how to reduce our carbon footprint, how to be better allies, with MC teaching us something new & important every time. MC was like that- she was fun, funny, & carefree, & also deeply caring & committed to making the world a better place wherever she went.

To all of MC’s family, friends, & those she impacted: MC meant so much to so many people. She was a warm & calming presence, a loyal friend, fantastic hostess, enthusiastic environmentalist, & an absolute a beam of sunlight. I hope you feel the presence of her bright spirit in you & let her spirit live on in the world through you. We will miss her terribly & think of her everyday.

Dearest MC -

Your presence was a gift, 
your laugh a balm, 
your smile a beam of sunshine. 

You were one in a billion; a bright star in a dark sky.  
There is no memory of you, where I do not feel 
the warm touch of sunlight on my skin.

I think that, perhaps, the sun cannot understand its own brilliance.
It can only see its light, reflected, and think: 
"How bright they all are." 

They say that the brightest stars burn the fastest, 
and so we must love them while we can.
Sadly, I now know that to be true. 

But they also say that, even after a star is extinguished, 
their light continues to be seen in the night sky, 
for many years more.  

We all love you, MC, 
and though you are no longer with us, 
we feel your warmth still. 

This was when we were so excited to move into the new Gartner building because all the facilities including the bathrooms look so nice. We were being silly and dancing in the shiny, new bathrooms. MC truly made every tiny moments in life so fun and special. We were always hyped for the smallest of things - a free cupcake from Georgetown Cupcakes, free swag from Gartner, picnics at Gravelly Point park, and new bathrooms. Through MC, I've learned to really appreciate the small things that are often overlooked. ❤️

MC always had so much love to give. Through her infectious kindness, my definition and idea of what a friend is and could be has changed so much over time. MC always showed up for people she loved and never left her friends questioning whether or not she cared. She made me feel like my life had worth and substance and I pray that she knew how much her life meant to me. I love you, MC ❤️

When I came over for board games and chai in January... I would've never known that it would be last time I get to have her homemade chai. I really should've asked for her recipe, but I thought this would be one of our "things" growing up. For example, I would bring new board games to try and she would make me her warm homemade chai as we catch up about our lives. Her chai was so good and warm and I feel lucky to have had it many times.

MC was always so thoughtful. We bonded over our mutual love of sweets and she would remember to pick up an extra cupcake from Georgetown Cupcake for me. She would go the extra mile to put that cupcake in a mason jar so that it wouldn't get damaged while being transported and put a stick in the cupcake so that it would be easy for me to take out of the jar. MC was the type of person who would always go the extra mile for her friends and be humble about it.

When MC moved to Falls Church, we talked about how excited we were to be closer to each other so that we can go to farmer markets and visit the Bakeshop more often. This was from the last time we visited an antique store in Falls Church and she introduced me to the Bakeshop for the first time. That day I remember she wore her Bakeshop shirt to get a free cupcake. She talked about how she felt bad about just getting a free cupcake and not paying for anything; so I told her that I can buy something every time so that she doesn't have to feel as bad and she can still have her free cupcake. We were so excited about this plan and had talked about how we should make this a more regular thing. ❤️

I’m so honored to have been a part of Mikey and MC’s journey together ❤️ MC always talked about how much she loved Mikey and how she couldn’t wait to celebrate with her friends with pizza and roller blades. In everything she did, she did it with such a genuine heart and in her own style. I really admired her for being able to forge her own way and doing it so beautifully. 

MC became family to us from the day we met her in New York. It was clear as day that her and Mikey complemented each other perfectly. Words cannot express how heavy our hearts are. Sending lots of love.

We are so sorry for your loss, and we will miss MC dearly. She was indeed such a spark of joy and energy, it was an honor to call her a friend and colleague at Capterra. A favorite memory of ours to share was having her, Mikey, Alison, and Boots come over last summer to play board games and eat pizza. We will cherish that fun memory forever, and always hold her dearly in our thoughts. I will miss MC everyday. From the day we met, we were present for others biggest life moments -first dates with our husbands, first home, engagement, and wedding. It won’t be the same without her.
