IN THE CARE OF

Murphy Funeral Homes

Lloyd Albert Poplin, born January 19, 1936, passed on May 20, 2022, in Arlington, Virginia. There will be a visitation at Murphy’s Funeral Home in Arlington on Wednesday, June 1 from 7pm - 9pm. His funeral service will be held June 2nd at St. Ann Catholic Church in Arlington at 11am followed by interment at Columbia Gardens at 12:30pm. Lloyd had a long and fulfilling life. He was born in Washington DC to Grace and Cecil Duffey and he and his brother were later adopted by Bruce Poplin. Lloyd went to Washington-Lee High School, received his accounting degree from Benjamin Franklin University and retired after a successful 30-year career as a senior financial analyst for Metro. He married Carol McLellan on November 12, 1966. In 1969, they moved to the Lyon Village neighborhood of Arlington, Virginia, into the home Lloyd's mother purchased in 1933, and together raised their five children. Lloyd was heavily involved in the local community, including serving as a Trustee for the Lyon Village Community, and offering his children's time and energy to deliver the monthly newsletter and to fill the soda machines at the community house. In his spare time, he enjoyed enthusiastically cheering from the sidelines at his kids and grandkids sporting events, gardening, golfing, and competing in the local bowling league. Lloyd was best known for his hospitality and was especially welcoming to all family and friends who passed through his door. He was also known for his sense of humor, his love of sports (especially Washington DC teams), his knowledge of which door to stand at for the easiest exit at each Metro station, and his desire to pass on the latest video and computer technology to his children. And let us not forget his adversarial, but respectful, relationship with the neighborhood squirrels. Lloyd is survived by his wife, Carol Poplin; children - Cindy Marcotty (Pete), Lloyd “Butch” Poplin ll (Beth), Jimmy Poplin (Kori), Beth Greene (Brian), Jerry Poplin (Chastity); sister - Cecily Rye; and his 10 loving grandchildren; Victoria, Cassie and Sophia Marcotty, Maddy, Erin and Bennett Poplin, Nathaniel and Ava Poplin, and Rori and Cece Greene.
