Our gorgeous sunshine, rock of our family and love of our life Kara Kristin Davis was born on the twenty-first night of September, 1975 to sweet momma Kathi and daddy Gerry. She grew up in Arlington, VA and attended Shenandoah University in Winchester. She lived in Kingstowne, VA with her husband, 2 youngest children, and family dogs Molly and Lambeau.
While on Earth, no one valued the lives and persons of their children more than Kara. The number 3 was a recurring theme in license plates, passwords, and email addresses, and it represented her love for her babies Alex (born 1996), Christian (born 1997), and Kylen (born 2005).
On June 14, 2003, Kara made Matt’s dreams come true by marrying him. For the tenure of their 20 year marriage they were generally inseparable. Their friendship became their cornerstone, and their love would become legendary.
One of Kara’s favorite things is spending time laughing with her favorite people, a group including her kids, her daughter-in-law Briana, her Momma, her mother-in-law Grandma Janet, and her husband, and often other friends of hers and Matt’s or the kids’ who quickly became family. She loved to laugh, often with a laugh that came from her whole self, and many laughing fits with the fam started over something like what could legally be considered ‘food’ during a disorderly game of Scattergories. Her laugh on Earth was real, unbridled, and infectious.
One of Kara’s favorite places is the northern Outer Banks in North Carolina. Many sunburned family afternoons were spent in Duck, Corolla, and Southern Shores playing Cornhole, barbecuing, swimming, playing board games, listening to yacht rock, and laughing. Like I said, she loved to laugh.
Kara’s abilities to cook a delicious meal, draw or paint something breathtaking, or build, knit, or crochet anything you could imagine are already pretty incredible. Add to that her gifts in all disciplines of theater arts, a knack for creating and bringing forth amazing character voices or giving a professional voice to a commercial, and even add in her professional level skills in musicianship including an earthly voice straight from the heavens and it might start to seem like I’m making this up. Unless you know her.
As extraordinary as it is for one person to be so good at so many things, what really makes her so memorable is how good she is at being a human being. She would make you feel special the very first time you met her. People are always drawn to her, and when she meets you she is effortlessly caring, engaging, sweet, intelligent, funny.
Surrounded by her family, she left her earthly body on July 5 to go Home. We wrote a lot of this in past tense because it happened in the past, but we know she is with us. Still, she is not physically here and we miss her achingly. Please consider honoring her by loving a little more recklessly, listening a little more intently, and laughing a little more loudly.
“Because I knew you, I have been changed for good”
We would like to announce a celebration of life for our Kara. We would like this to be a joyful occasion.
Please wear her favorite color green.
