Joyce Ann Bunch

Joyce Ann (Heeter) Bunch died on February 17, 2020, in Regency Care of Arlington, VA. She was born to Raymond Eugene and Ada Irene (Depew) Heeter on November 12, 1951, in La Plata, MD. She graduated from George Washington High School in Alexandria, VA in 1969. She was married first to Frank Jay Whitsell, Sr.; then, to Maury van dorn Bunch, Jr. in March 1980. Joyce left the workforce because of mental health and diabetes and was on Social Security and Disability benefits for most of her adult life. She was once a representative of those with mental health issues in Arlington County and was proud of that fact. She was an avid Redskins fan and attended one of their charity events. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, her son Frank (Whitsell) Phalen, her second husband, and her brother Harold Heeter. She is survived by her sister Charlene Heeter of Springfield, VA; sister-in-law Patricia (Waugaman) Heeter of Tallahassee, FL; son Martin Ray (Whitsell) Chaffee of Culpeper, VA; and granddaughter Rachel Meeks of Fredericksburg, VA. She is also survived by Aunt Cassie Stromer of Lakeland, FL, many cousins and a host of friends. A celebration of her life will be held. A special thank you goes to the staff of Regency Care of Arlington. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill or the American Diabetes Association.
