Jeanne Turner Lupton, 85, of Arlington Virginia, died August 19, 2015 at Virginia Hospital Center after a brief illness. Daughter of Robert Benson Turner and Pauline Ritter, Jeanne was born on the 4th of July, 1930, and grew up in Washington, D.C. knowing that the yearly fireworks displays were for her birthday! She is survived by her children Alfred Roberts Lupton, Jr., Jennifer Lupton Ailstock, Mark Roberts Lupton, James Edward Lupton, and Lisa Turner Lupton. Her daughter Ann Archer Lupton Ausmus preceded her in death. She is also survived by her grandchildren Erin Ailstock Young , Homer DeNeal Ailstock, Jr., Anna Lynn Ailstock, Matthew Markson Lupton; and great-grandchildren Liam and Sophia Young.
Jeanne was a loving mother and grandmother who we affectionately called “GGMa”. GGMa showered her family with love and affection, and everyone in our large family has collections of her beautifully hand-painted cards that she created for every occasion.
Jeanne was courageous in the face of life’s challenges and was a source of strength for her family. Her sense of adventure carried her to live in Alaska for eight years later in her life. Her great artistic talent blossomed in her retirement years and was expressed in innumerable paintings, sketches, and portraits of people as well as their beloved pets. She loved to sew and to quilt, and her many beautiful handcrafted creations are expressions of her artistic gifts and her love of nature, her family, and of life. She was an active member of her church, and her faith and her belief in Jesus Christ sustained her and gave her great comfort.
A memorial service and celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, September 5, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Sleepy Hollow United Methodist Church, 3435 Sleepy Hollow Road, Falls Church, VA 22044. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sleepy Hollow United Methodist Church.
