Jean Swenson Lake of Jupiter, Florida, passed away on June 8th at her home after a courageous battle with cancer. Beloved wife of William H. Lake, mother of six children: Bill (Robyn) of Cambridge, MD; Daniel (deceased) (Robin) of Santa Monica, CA; Joan (Randy) of Charleston, SC; Peter (Pam) of Huatulco, Mexico; Andrew (Patricia) of Bethesda, MD; Tony (Liz) of Chester, VA; and 13 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
Born in 1927, in Orange, New Jersey, Jean graduated high school early and received her RN degree from the University of Pennsylvania. Jean began her career in New York City and eventually traveled to Galveston, Texas where she met the love of her life and future husband, Bill Lake. They were married for 65 years until Bill’s passing in 2015. As a couple, they raised 6 children and Jean was Bill’s supportive partner in Bill’s founding of Information Management Services, a computer programming and statistics company serving the National Cancer Institute. She was a member of the company’s Board of Directors until her passing. Jean was an ageless woman with a quick wit who loved boating, fishing, knitting, and volunteering to teach children to read. Jean was committed to living a healthy lifestyle and kept sharp by solving the daily Wordle and Sudoku puzzles. Her true passion, though, was lap swimming and she rarely missed a day in the pool.
Jean will be laid to rest with her husband at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to Trustbridge Hospice of Palm Beach County (link to donate below).
