George was an amazing and strong minded man to the end with incomparable wit, love, and a passion for his lifelong favorite sports teams from Washington, DC. His priority was always family. He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years Patsy A. Merry-Rice, his high school sweetheart. Devoted father of Sharon, William, Susan and Shelley. Proud grandfather of Hobie, Bobby, Tyler, Brittany, Leah, Lucas, Kellie and Charles, and Great-Grandfather to Juleah. Survived by his only sister, Dorothy Brainerd.
His laughter, endless love for family, and compassion for animals will forever be felt by many. He will be greatly missed. A Celebration of Life Visitation will be held at Murphy Funeral Home, 4510 Wilson Blvd. Arlington, Va. 22203 on Thursday, July 26, 2018 form 11:00 a.m. until service time at 12:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Columbia Garden Cemetery.
