Frank A. “Paco” Gallego, age 83, passed away suddenly in the early morning of Sunday, June, 29, 2014.
He was the beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to many.
Frank A. “Paco” Gallego was born January 23, 1931, in Holguin, Cuba. He immigrated to the United States in 1956 and proudly became a citizen in 1968. In 1959, Frank met the former Alma Jean Wright while they were both working at Saranac Inn in upstate New York; they later married in 1961 . He enjoyed the beach, sun, being silly (especially making great faces), playing practical jokes, making people laugh, and having fun with his grandchildren. Frank enjoyed his friends and neighbors, talking on the phone, creating things out of wood, giving advice to his strong-willed adult daughters and driving his wife Alma crazy with his numerous projects around the house and yard. He loved eating the great Cuban food Alma prepared and having his picture taken.
Frank worked as a Banquet Manager for the Shoreham, Sheraton and Hyatt Regency Hotels in Washington, D.C. He later became the General Manager for Dominique’s Restaurant and part owner and manager of the Ecco Café in Old Towne Alexandria, before retiring in1996.
He leaves to cherish beautiful memories for his wife of 52 years Alma, daughters; Yolanda (Roy Pietrovito) Gallego, Lisa Gallego, an Karen (Nick) Sherman, grandchildren; Abby and Toby Sherman, sisters; Emma Rosa “Rosita” Villegas and Cira Martinez.
Frank was preceded in death by his son Frank, age 22, and sisters; Ana Josefa “Pepa” Biosca and Yolanda Rivero.
Frank will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
