

Edwin Javiel Nazario was born on November 22, 1948 and passed away on June 13, 2023 while in the care of the Washington DC VA Medical Center. He was 74 years old. Mr. Nazario enlisted in the U.S. Army at the age of eighteen. He served in the Vietnam war as a member of the 82nd Airborne Division and as a member of the 75th Ranger Regiment where he conducted long range recon patrols as part of his mission. During his service, he received a Purple Heart for wounds incurred during combat. Mr. Nazario was also an avid amateur boxer and a Golden Gloves boxer. Mr. Nazario worked as a Correctional Officer for the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction until his retirement. Upon retirement, Mr. Nazario served as a boxing coach to at-risk youth in Fayetteville, North Carolina.
He is survived by his son Edwin Nazario, his wife Heather Stoots Nazario, and their children Zoe, Alejandro and Markus of North Bethesda, Maryland. He is also survived by his son Greg Nazario, his wife Susan Nazario, and their children Riley and Lauren of Raeford, North Carolina. In addition, he is survived by his sisters Esmeralda Vargas and family of Berkeley Heights, New Jersey, Delma Rivera and family of Lakewood, New Jersey and Iris Barriera and family of Woodbridge, New Jersey.
