Doris Wallbaum Vitt, age 98, passed away peacefully on December 22, 2014. She is survived by her son, A. Francis (Fran) Vitt, Jr., (Barbara), of Arlington, VA, Thomas G. Vitt (Nancy) of Berlin, NJ, and Susan V. Tracy (Larry) of Reston, VA, along with 11 grandchildren, and 19 great grandchildren.
Doris came to Washington, D.C. (Anacostia) in 1951 with her husband A. Francis "Bud" Vitt (died 1963), and then in 1953 settled in Arlington, VA, where she was known for her volunteer work at the various schools and St. Ann’s parish with her many years in the choir, Sodality and Legion of Mary, Hospice, Meals on Wheels, Virginia Hospital Center, and even in her retirement at Goodwin House she continued her work of helping others.
Family and friends will be received at Murphy’s Funeral Home, 4510 Wilson Boulevard, Arlington, VA, on Friday, December 26th from 4-7 p.m., with a Mass of Celebration at St. Ann Roman Catholic Church, 5300 N. 10th Street, Arlington, VA at noon. Following a reception at the church, burial will be at Fort Lincoln Cemetery in Brentwood, MD at 3:30. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your charity of choice.
