David Keith Yoder, 68, departed this life on Wednesday, May 3, 2017, at his home in Heathsville, Virginia. He was born April 15, 1949, in Washington, DC, the son of Margaret (Gates) Yoder and Charles Brook Yoder. Keith was raised in Arlington County and graduated from Wakefield High School with the class of 1967. On June 17, 1967, Keith was hired by the Arlington County Police Department as a Clerical Aide and soon after promoted to Police Cadet. He worked for the department for two years before being called to serve his country in the United States Army in 1969. Keith served faithfully in Viet Nam as a Military Police for two years until receiving an Honorable Discharge in 1971. During his service in the Army, his heart went out to the children of Viet Nam. His cousin sent him toys that he would give to the children as he passed through the villages. Upon return from Viet Nam he continued his career at the Arlington County Police Department and on April 6, 1971 was sworn in as a Police Officer. He had various positions including Motor Officer in the Special Operation Division. Keith loved riding the motorcycles. He often bragged about riding no matter how hot, cold or rainy the weather would be. Keith held other assignments but ultimately would end back with the Motor Unit. He was with the Motor Unit until his motorcycle accident in 1990 which led to his early retirement in 1995. In addition to his love of motorcycles he enjoyed listening and singing Doo Wop music, reading, watching westerns, playing poker and horse shoes. On September 7, 1988, Keith was united in marriage with Elaine Moore and they spent their lives together until his death. He leaves to honor his memory, wife, Elaine; two daughters: Michelle Sullivan of Vienna, Virginia, and Danielle (Phillip) Reed of Vienna, Virginia, two grandsons: Colin Sullivan and Adrian Reed, two brothers: Kyle (Gayle) Yoder of Springfield, Virginia and Brook (Jane) Yoder of Goldvein, Virginia, nieces: Heather Kincaid of Warrenton, Virginia, Karin (Damien) Price, Shannon (Michael) Kinney both of Centerville, Virginia, nephews: Clayton (Nicole) Yoder of Warrenton, Virginia, James Higgins III and Isaac Cook, mother-in-law; Alice Proctor of Fairfax, Virginia, sisters-in-law: Jennifer (Warner) Session of Washington, D.C., Ernestine (James II) Higgins of Woodbridge, Virginia, Wanda (Kenneth) Cook of Ashburn, Virginia; Francine Mirza Yoder (mother of Michelle and Danielle) and a host of other family and friends.
