Carrie Elizabeth Lassiter Taylor passed away on February 11, 2024 at the age of 95. At the time of her death, she resided at Goodwin House in Bailey’s Crossroads where she enjoyed good company and made some dear friends.
She was born to Margaret and Joseph Lassiter in December 1928 in South Norfolk, now Chesapeake, Virginia.
After high school, she attended Radford College, a division of Virginia Tech, which was an all-Women’s institution at the time. Hats and gloves were required and curfew was strictly enforced! After receiving her teaching degree in 1951, she taught in several areas of the state. In 1956, she embarked on the adventure of a lifetime. She boarded a ship to cross the Atlantic to teach at Military dependents schools in Germany and later Japan. She travelled extensively during this time in Europe and the UK.
She married Charles Christopher Taylor in July 1961 and moved to Bethlehem, Pennsylvania where her husband was teaching at Lehigh University. All three of their children were born there. Several years later, the family moved and settled in Northern Virginia. Carrie remained in the family home after she was widowed in 1990. She enjoyed the everyday life of spending time with family and Grandchildren, working in the garden and some travel here and there. She was a long-time member of St. John's United Methodist Church. She was a woman of quiet strength and found happiness in her daily activities, her friends, and her family.
Carrie is predeceased by her older brother, Bill Lassiter. She is survived by her sister, Josie Collier; her daughter, Julie (Wes) Kemp; her sons, Ben and Sam Taylor; her granddaughter, Morgan (Andrew) DiPietro; and her grandsons, Travis Kemp, Jack Kemp, and Alex Taylor.
