Arthur “Art” Frederick Marcey (90) of Edinburg, Virginia, passed away on September 12, 2023, at the Blue Ridge Hospice in Winchester, Virginia after a short illness.
Born and raised in Arlington, Virginia, Art was the third of four children of Earl and Thelma (Stover) Marcey. He married his high school sweetheart, Peggy Anne Carter in 1952. They made their home in Falls Church and then Arlington and raised four children.
Art started his career as a land surveyor in Virginia. He realized his dream career of becoming a police officer when he joined the Arlington County police department where he was a uniformed officer and then a detective with over 20 years of service.
Art and Peggy moved to Edinburg, Virginia in the Shenandoah Valley in 1994 where they built their retirement home overlooking the mountains. Art enjoyed crafting in his workshop, taking care of his acres, and volunteering as a firearms instructor for the Sheriff’s office.
Art was preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, Peggy Carter Marcey, and his daughter, Debra Marcey Lewis. He is survived by his children Daniel Marcey (Patty), Rebecca Marcey, and Nancy Marcey Corcoran. He was Grandpa/Pop to Christopher Marcey, Jeremy Marcey (Anne), Brian Corcoran (Christina), Erin Corcoran West (Michael), Jameson Marcey (Katrina), and eight great-grandchildren.
A private burial will be held in Arlington, Virginia.
