We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Antonio Russo, 89, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many. He fought the good fight with courage and strength, and passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family and his beautiful wife Anna of 64 years in the early hours of December 19, 2023. Antonio and Anna were together for 69 years and she was by his side telling him stories of their lives together. His presence in our lives will be greatly missed, but his memory will forever live on in our hearts.
Antonio was born in Rome Italy, in 1934. He began his career in the Italian Air Force, where he rose to the rank of Chief Warrant Officer. He moved with his family to the United States 50 year ago in 1973 for an assignment at the Embassy of Italy in Washington DC. After retiring from the Air Force, he joined Intelsat, an international satellite organization based in Washington DC, where he was in charge of security until he retired in 1996. He was active as a coach in the Arlington County soccer youth league and enjoyed fishing and watching soccer.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Anna Russo of Arlington, VA, son Alberto and his wife Denise Russo of Leesburg, VA, son Andre Russo of Oakton, VA, grandson Paul Russo of Cambridge, MD, and granddaughters Tara Fitzpatrick of Manassas, VA and Luisa Russo of Oakton, VA.
A private service will be held at Murphy’s Funeral Home in Arlington VA on December 22nd, followed by a private funeral at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Falls Church, VA at a later date. His final resting place will be St. Anthony Catholic church columbarium.
