Mrs. Annette M. McGee was born on July 21, 1941, in Washington, D.C., and passed away on March 16, 2023 at the age of 81. She was the daughter of the late Julius Winfield Robertson, Esq., and Nellie Robertson Mitchell, and beloved sister of the late Julius T. Robertson, Jr. (“Tommy/JuJu”) and Anthony Marcus Robertson. Mrs. McGee was pre-deceased by her former husband, Dr. Albert Q. McGee.
Anne McGee was a skilled writer and editor from an early age. In high school, she worked in her father’s law office preparing court filings and typing briefs. She attended Howard University until her father passed and eventually became a teacher – teaching in the Columbus, Ohio school system and at the historic Piney Woods Life School in Piney Woods, Mississippi.
Anne McGee lived overseas for four years in Nigeria and Tanzania, with her husband and children. When she returned to the United States, she earned her Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Maryland summa cum laude and worked for the former Department of Health, Education, and Welfare (now Health and Human Services). Anne McGee also worked at the Peace Corps as the Country Desk Officer for the East Africa Region for five years – a job which allowed her to travel to many countries around the world. Anne McGee also was the speech writer and editor for Dean Fred Lawrence of the G.W. Law School from 2005-2010.
Anne’s true passion, however, was to be a “light in the world” and be of service to those who were ignored, downtrodden, disregarded, and forgotten by society. Anne worked at Raah Christian Women’s Ministries in Columbus, Ohio –
a rehabilitation home for women recovering from domestic violence and abuse, and reentering society after incarceration. She was fondly called “Mom Anne” by everyone who met her and she had an eternally joyful and positive spirit which touched the hearts of so many others. Anne was ordained as a minister by Pastor Lafayette of Rhema Christian Center in Columbus Ohio. When Anne returned to the Washington, D.C. area, she served as a minister at Alfred Street Baptist Church in Alexandria, Virginia.
Annette McGee is survived by her three children, Ayanna Simone Nahmias (James Simmons), Ramon (Janie) McGee, and Ramona L. McGee. She is also survived by three grandchildren – Jamile and Jasmine McGee, and Savier J. Klein – and two great-grandchildren – Gabriel and London McGee. Annette is survived by her sister Mrs. Dale (Karl) Ore, and many nieces and nephews including Anthony M. Robertson Jr. (“Little Tony”); Karlene Klempacher Ore; Julianne Robertson; Edward C. (Valerie) Clayton, Johnny Clayton, Mitchell Clayton; Sonya and Donald McGee; Shelby (Falesia), Anthony, and Troy Jones; Annette Henry, Betty Korea, and Paulette Munford; Dupree McGee; Buffy and Nneka McGee; Barbara Alston, Cynthia McGee, Sylvia Johnston, and Carol Adams; and Sam McGee.
Anne McGee was loved by many relatives and friends, including her lifelong “sisters” and best friends, Margaret M. Noble and Doris Logan, Mr. Alvin Whyte, and Air Force Colonel Charles F. Hicks (USAF Retired)
