Bill was born Sept. 11, 1927, in Ada, Okla. He attended college at TCU as a freshman band member; he transferred to TWU where he also played in the band. He played in many national swing bands in his life, including the Tommy Dorsey Band. Bill played for the FW City Band, and was a founding member of the Lockheed Jazz Band, "Dynamic Swing Machine." He organized his own band, the Tiny Smith Orchestra, from 1954-1957. Bill was a Mason with Julian Field Lodge #908, and became a Master Mason in 1992. Bill went on to be a Noble Moslah Shriner in 1993. He then joined the Moslah Temple Shrine Band and competed at state and national levels winning several superior ratings. He was president of the Moslah Shrine Band in 1996.
Bill and his wife traveled to many different countries and traveled throughout all of the U.S.
Survivors: Wife and best friend for the past 24 years, Janet Wilhite Smith; four-legged companion, Forest; siblings, Wanda Friedenstab and Jerry L. Smith Sr.; and many other loving family members.
