Funeral Services: 12:30, Saturday, July 16, 2011 at Moore Funeral Home, with burial to follow at Moore Memorial Gardens. The family will receive visitors and friends one hour prior to the service.
Howell spent his early years working with his parents and siblings on their family farm until graduating from Hornersville High School. He held degrees from the University of Missouri School of Mines and Metallurgy and West Virginia University. While attending the School of Mines he was active in the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity and the Army ROTC program. Upon completion of a Master of Science degree from West Virginia University, he was commissioned a second lieutenant in the United States Army Corp of Engineers where he proudly served until being honorably discharged as a Captain in 1975.
He dedicated over 30 years of his professional career to Professional Service Industries, Inc, eventually serving as the company’s president until his passing. He very much enjoyed working for the company and the time spent with employees and clients.
Although he had a very active professional career, he was a very dedicated and beloved father and grandfather. He spent many summers coaching his sons’ baseball teams and many evenings attending his daughter’s dance recitals. He especially enjoyed hunting season with his children, grandchildren and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd Pershing Branum and Borease Branum, his wife, Diana Branum and his first wife, Judy Edmonston Branum.
He is survived by his daughter Lisa Louise Wright and her husband Nolan Wright; daughter Susie Weirether; son Brian Howell Branum and his wife Gail Branum; son Jay Christopher Branum and his wife Wendy Branum; brother Lloyd B. Branum; sister Connie Lemons and her husband Mike Lemons. In addition he is survived by seven grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.
He devoted his time and charity to helping children in need, therefore in lieu of flowers the family asks for donations to be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Memphis, TN, 1-800-822-6344.
