Wayne Dewitt Thornton was born on February 9th, 1934, to Haskel & Vivion Thornton in Fort Worth, TX. After Wayne graduated from Poly High School in 1959, he went on to study Geology in Oil & Gas at the University of Oklahoma.
After graduating and getting his Masters in Geology from OU, he started his first Job at Humble Oil (which later became Exxon) as a geologist, kickstarting a 40+ year career in the Oil & Gas Industry.
In 1954, Wayne married Anna Myrle Rutledge in Forth Worth, TX. Wayne & Anna Myrl went on to have two children Steven Wayne and Sherrill Ann.
In 2000, Wayne retired and spent time traveling with Anna Myrle and playing lots of golf. He not only enjoyed traveling and golfing but spending time with his family. Seeing he was a former Semi-Pro baseball player for the Fort Worth Cats, he loved attending all his grandkids sporting events.
Wayne Thornton was preceded in death his father Haskel, mother Vivion and wife, Anna Myrl. He is survived by his brother Jerry Thornton & wife Corey, son Steven Thornton, daughter, Sherrill Hood. Daughter-in-law, Dorothy Thornton, Son-in-law, Clark Hood. 5 Grandchildren Emily, Maddie & Hayden Thornton; Haleigh Myers and Harrison Hood. 3 Great Grandchildren Hadlee, Charlee & Noah.
Graveside Services will be held at Moore Funeral Home & Memorial Gardens, 1219 North Davis Drive, Arlington, TX 76012, Thursday, July 20th at 10:00 AM. Please plan on arriving at least 15 minutes early to gather at the funeral home and carpool, or follow family to the gravesite.
