She was born in Bakana Rivers State of Nigeria on the 26th day of August 1922. Her parents were Princess Eleanor Marion-Braide and Chief Edwin Awusin Yellowe
Mrs Waibim Awusinba Abbey graduated from Achimota University, The Gold Coast and received a Diploma in Home Economics and Grade 1 Teacher’s Certificate when it was not popular for young African ladies to attend University.
She was married to His Imperial Majesty King Akkio Abbey (Ajuko X) Amayanabo of Tombia on June 14th 1952. Mrs. Waibim Awusinba Abbey worked as a Teacher, Entrepreneur, philanthropist, Educational Coach and mentor for various Schools, Higher institutions and Ministries in Rivers State. She was a member of various educational boards and lead in women’s matters in Rivers State and Nigeria as a whole. She had a passion to HELP all whom she came in contact with. She was the ROCK in her family and the society at large, she was the go to person for anything and anyone who had a problem that needed a solution ALL came to her. She fought for her family and her rights as a woman and leader in Rivers State. She made sure all her children were taken care of to the best of her ability and ensured PEACE at all times amongst ALL of them and her relatives at large.
She migrated to the United States on September 4th 2003 after the death of her beloved husband who she had been married to for over 51 years. She was the voice for all her children here in the Dallas Fort-Worth area. It did not matter where you came from, it did not matter what race or creed you were, it did not matter what you did, if she met you, you were automatically her child. She constantly prayed for and blessed all that she came in contact with and was always a happy individual. Her smile and laughter was priceless and contagious. Her pray to you always was “You will live longer than I have and God will bless you abundantly” There was never a dull moment around “Mummy” as she was fondly called by all. Mrs. Waibim Awusinba Abbey was a Nigerian but yet an American Citizen which she was so proud of. She had the opportunity to vote her American rights and always blessed this country for the freedoms and liberty for all. She was loved by all and will be greatly missed. The vacuum created by her passing is so great that it is immeasurable.
