Virginia Orchard (Ginny) passed peacefully on Aug. 15, 2023, after an extended illness. Ginny was born in Dallas on July 31,1939 to Curtis and Hilda Calhoun. She attended Irving schools from grade school thru high school - attending Irving High. Ginny married her high school sweetheart, Terry Burden in 1955. Ginny and Terry had three children, Mike, Pam & Scott. Terry’s job required him to move around, so they called many places home - from Texas to California and then back home to Texas again. With moving around so much, Ginny decided it was best to be a stay-at-home mom and homemaker. She was also a big animal lover. There was probably never a time that she did not have at least one dog. While the kids were small, the family home was host to many exotic animals - a monkey, a raccoon, rabbits, guinea pigs, chickens and a large tortoise just to name a few . . . not to mention all the dogs and cats that passed through. After the kids were in high school, Ginny went back to school where she earned her degree in interior design. Terry died suddenly of a stroke in 1979. After Terry’s death Ginny stayed busy with her design business, travel, gardening and spending time with friends and family. Several years later, Virginia married James Orchard in 1985. Jim & Ginny moved to Washington D.C. in 1986 and remained there until 1993. During her time in DC, Virginia got her real estate license and enjoyed several years selling homes and of learning everything that she could about real estate. After returning to the DFW area, Jim and Virginia began investing in real estate. They worked together repairing and remodeling homes and duplexes as investment properties. Jim passed in 2008. Since his passing, Virginia has enjoyed spending time with friends and family. She was active in the Red Hat Club of North Arlington and enjoyed meeting and spending time with many new friends. She also was a member of the Genealogy Association of Arlington and spent many hours researching family history.
Virginia was proceeded in death by husbands, Terry Burden and James Orchard, parents, Curtis & Hilda Calhoun and brother William Calhoun.
Survivors: Children, Michael Burden, Pamela Reas (David), Scott Burden (Jan); Brother, John Calhoun (Catherine); Stepchildren James Orchard III (Amy) and Karen Snyder; 11 Grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren; numerous cousins, nephews, special friends and her special fur baby Zoie.
