Thomas J. Reed passed away March 23, 2017 following a courageous battle after a stroke. He was born on December 9, 1937 to Charles and Inez Reed in Cross Plains, TX. The family later moved to Odessa, TX, where Tom played football at Odessa High School. Upon graduating from Texas Tech with a Petroleum Engineering degree, he was hired by Humble Oil & Refining where he got a basic introduction to the business. Tom then became employed by Hunt Oil Company, where he was one of the driving forces behind their Amacker-Tippett field development in west Texas. He enjoyed 50 years in the oil industry, retiring as Senior Vice President of Hunt in 2000. Tom married the love of his life, Linda K. Reed, in August of 1976. Tom and Linda eventually moved and made Arlington their home. They enjoyed 35 years of wedded life, which included travel to various parts of Europe and the Middle East.
Tom was loved and respected for many reasons. He had many hobbies and passions including betting at the horse races, cooking his oyster stuffing for holiday meals, catching up with loved ones over coffee and Price is Right, and tending to both his flowers and the stray cats of the neighborhood. Though Tom did not have grandchildren of his own, he took in the neighborhood kids as his own. They have fond memories of walking to the park with Tom to feed the ducks in the pond, playing basketball, sliding down the hills in his backyard, and helping Tom rake leaves. Tom enjoyed good conversation and was loyal and giving.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, and his wife Linda. Tom is survived by extended family and many good friends who will miss and remember him fondly.
