Theresa Anne Buck, 84, of Arlington, Texas, passed away peacefully on June 20, 2020. Theresa was born in San Benito, Texas on December 14, 1935. An avid Girl Scout, she graduated from San Benito High School. Her love of music was evident from her study of piano, participation in choir, and playing French Horn in band. Theresa was a serious student and member of the National Honor Society.
She attended Incarnate Word College in San Antonio, was co-editor of the yearbook, a member of the choir, and worked part time at the public library. Theresa graduated with a degree in Elementary Education, where her love for children and teaching became a lifelong passion. Following graduation in 1958, Theresa moved to Warner Springs, California to begin her teaching career where she met her husband-to-be on a blind date. They were soon married at Mission San Diego de Alcala and lived in San Diego where their first two children were born. They returned to Texas in 1966 to be closer to their families and made their home in Fort Worth, where their third child was born, before soon settling in Arlington.
Theresa taught for over 35 years. She earned a Master of Education from Texas Woman’s University in 1981 and taught at Saint Maria Goretti Catholic School and Roark Elementary School. She was named Roark’s Teacher of the Year in 1994. Following her retirement and until her stroke in 2009, Theresa served as a substitute teacher at Saint Maria Goretti and Saint Joseph Catholic Schools in Arlington.
She was very strong in her Catholic faith and a long-time contributing member of Saint Maria Goretti Catholic Church where she was involved with her own children’s education and extra-curricular activities, as well as being an active member of the Church Choir, Women’s Guild, Garden Club, and Leisure Club. Theresa continued to be involved in Girl Scouts as an assistant leader and was a member of the Engineering Wives’ Club. Theresa loved to travel, play bridge, and crochet, and enjoyed shopping and organic gardening. Most of all she treasured spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandson Charlie, of whom she was extremely proud.
Theresa is survived by John, her husband of nearly 60 years, her children Lisa (John), Lee (Lynn) and grandson Charlie, and Ron (Bob); her sister Elaine (John), and brothers George (Jim) and Charles (Jeni) and their families, including in-laws, nieces, nephews, and their children and grandchildren.
