February 7, 1953 in Lyons, Texas. He passed away March 19, 2019 at Baylor Scott and White
Facility. His parents proceeded him in death along with three sisters, Helen Ann, Vergie Baker, and
Carrie Gray.
His education included Jones High - Snook High graduation in 1971. He also
attended Blinn College and transitioned to Stephen F. Austin University in Nacogdoches, Texas
where he received a BA in Business. He was a member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity.
He accepted Christ at an early age. He was baptized at St. James Christian Church under the
leadership of Rev. W.B. Washington.
In 1973, he married Patricia Shears, to this union two sons were born, Patrick and Edward Washington. They reside in Arlington, Texas.
Later he met Catherine Clay and they were married in 2000.
Early in his career, Sam managed a Denny's restaurant and later retired from Roadway Trucking. During his career he had many adventurous jobs.
His survivors include wife of 19 years, Catherine Clay Washington; sons, Patrick and Edward Washington; brothers, John W. Jr, Theodore B.(Linda) and Alvin (Dorothy); sisters, Lula Preston, Ermaree Bennett, Cewillie Kossie; step-children, Clarissa (Jeff) Lott and Krystal (Brent) Creamer; Step-grandchildren, Cassidy and Jonathan Lott, and Anthony, Katelyn, and Christian Curtis; brothers-in-law, Elma Clay, Andrew Clay, and Lee (Lottie) Clay; sisters-in-law, Henrietta Jones, Carolyn Clay Mosley, Sally (David) Small, and Joyce (David) Doolittle; and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended relatives and friends.
