Ryan Matthew Strickland passed to the next dimension on July 19, 2023 after a 2-year battle with cancer. He was born on April 7, 1987 (his grandmother’s birthday) to Debi (Strickland) McGill and Bill Strickland. Ryan came two weeks early and weighed in at 13lbs 2oz and was confirmed to be the biggest baby born at Trinity Medical Center in Carrollton, Texas.
Ryan was an astronomy nerd. From second grade on, he was fascinated with the study of planet Jupiter’s Great Red Spot, the numerous galaxies in our universe, black holes and quantum physics. He was also a huge fan of American Astronomer Neil DeGrasse Tyson. Ryan also loved music. He played the acoustic and electric guitars and jammed with friends as often as he could. He had been to many concerts over the years and recently met one of his favorite bands, Fear Factory, after one of their recent Dallas shows. A few of his favorite bands were Tool, Cannibal Corpse, Rammstein, Urizen, Pink Floyd and many others. Ryan loved watching adult swim and anime and was a fan of Star Wars and Back to the Future. When asked what his dream car would be, he always said a DeLorean.
An old soul, Ryan was an angel brought to this world by God above. He had a huge heart and was loved dearly by his many friends, and he affected many lives along the way. He was taken too young, but heaven has recalled their angel and we were all blessed that he was here to share his love with us.
Ryan is preceded in death by maternal grandparents Jonel Dukes and LeRoy Dukes, Sr.; and paternal grandparents June Strickland and William Strickland. He is survived by his mother, Debi McGill and husband Billy McGill; father, Bill Strickland; brother Mike Strickland and wife Crystal; nieces Kamryn Strickland, McKaylee Strickland, Rebecca Anderson and nephew Lawrence Singleton; step-grandmother Mary McGill; step-sister Brittney Wright and husband Colin Wright and step-niece Amelia Wright; step-sister Kaley McGill, as well as many other aunts, uncles and cousins.
Casual dress at the service is preferred. A concert t-shirt or blue (Colorectal cancer color) shirt and shorts (it's 102 degrees outside) or jeans. Dress comfortably.
