Ronald Dean “Ron” Bolton passed away in the early hours of June 2, 2023, the day after his 75th birthday. He had been courageously battling cancer for the past 18 months. Ron is survived by his wife, Angelina, and his children: Chris Bolton (Jennifer) of Mansfield, Texas; Eric Bolton (Ryschelle) of Burleson, Texas; and Ioana Gabel (Randy) of Arlington, Texas. He was a doting grandfather to Sydney, Harper, Braxton, Rylan, Lili and Tristan. On the last full day of his life, he was surrounded by family and friends to celebrate his birthday. He had a strong will to reach his 75th year.
Ron was born on June 1, 1948, in Borger, Texas, to Curt and Meta Bolton. He grew up in Sunray, Texas, in the Texas Panhandle and graduated from Sunray High School in 1967. He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother Wayne Bolton. He is survived by his brother Larry Bolton and his family from Amarillo, Texas. He is also survived by his nieces, nephews and cousins whom he loved dearly.
Ron held a political science degree from West Texas State University and numerous certifications in his chosen profession of purchasing and supply chain management. He retired in 2009 after 25 years of service to Hunt Oil in Dallas, Texas. During his time with Hunt Oil, he took an assignment in Yemen for several years and later lived in London while working on a special project. Ron joked that he hated the commute from south Arlington to downtown Dallas so much that he took an assignment in Yemen to escape the traffic. It was during his time in Yemen that he met his wife, Angelina, who was also working there on assignment as a nurse from Bulgaria. After a brief courtship, they married in the Bulgarian Embassy. They recently celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary. Ron was a citizen of the world so it is only fitting that he would have family and friends across the globe. He loved Angelina’s family in Bulgaria and was very close to her brother Mario and his family. Overseas work did not stop for Ron when he retired from Hunt Oil. He later took contract assignments in Calgary and Buenos Aires.
Ron loved to travel the world. Ron, Angelina and their friends shared many wonderful adventures. There were more than he could remember, but the list included: Italy, Croatia, Argentina, Peru, Australia, New Zealand, Bora Bora, the South Pacific islands, Japan, Iceland, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Spain, Costa Rica, Bulgaria, Thailand, Malaysia, Scotland, Chile, Uruguay, Mexico, all of the Caribbean, most European countries and many other wonderful and exotic destinations.
Ron also loved being close to home. He enjoyed taking his grandkids to museums, the zoo and the park. He was a proud grandfather who never missed a play or a performance.
Music was another one of Ron’s loves, which he passed on to his children. He played guitar and sang in barbershop quartets. In his leisure time, he enjoyed a good biography, good food and spirited dinner table conversation.
In his last days, he reflected on his life, and what a wonderful life it was. He was blessed with a beautiful family, fulfilling work, great friends and the opportunity to see the world. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
The family will host a celebration of Ron’s life later this year and request that donations be made to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, in lieu of flowers.
