He was born in Lancaster, Ohio on 8May1950 and graduated from Lancaster High School. Chris also attended the Community College of the Air Force (formerly known as The University of Maryland) during his military service.
He and his husband, Wayland Jerome Williams, met in early 1989 and had their Holy Union at Metropolitan Community Church on 5Aug of that same year. When legally able to do so, Chris and Wayland were married on October 22, 2013.
Chris had a 20-year career in the United States Air Force and achieved the rank of E6 Technical Sergeant. During most of his military career he was involved in dental services and also served as a recruiter. Service to his country brought him a tremendous sense of pride and purpose.
He also had a passion for gardening and more importantly, he had an unparalleled devotion to his grandchildren who named him “BayBay”.
Chris is survived by his husband, Wayland Jerome Wharton; his son, Todd Andrew Wharton and wife Jennifer of Rockwall, Texas; daughter, Nicole Marie Wharton and her wife, Mary Joseph “MJ” Gianturco of Long Island, New York; grandchildren, Kendall Brooke Wharton (6), Kiley Brielle Wharton (4), Korbin Bishop Wharton (19 months), and unborn grandson, Christopher Joseph Gianturco. His sister, Connie Miller, nephews, Ralph, Gary and Michael Miller and niece, Jennifer Miller, also survive him.
A memorial service remains unscheduled until our daughter, Nicole, is able to safely travel.
