Richard Lewis Heard, Sr., 93, of Arlington, Texas, passed away Sunday, November 16, 2014. He was born in Danville, Virginia on May 18, 1921. Richard graduated from George Washington High School in 1939, served in the Army Air Corp as a sergeant in WWII, and received a BBA from Washington and Lee University in 1947, where he was a member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity. He was married to Mildred Jarrell in January, 1960 and widowed in 2007. He worked for The Department of Labor for over 40 years. He had a passion for creative writing and American history. He is survived by his brother, John Heard; children: Sharon Heard-Cross and husband Jim, Richard Lewis Heard Jr. and wife Judith, and Edwin Heard; Grandchildren: Justin and Dane Haase, Sarah Junkins, Connor, Tim, Jason and Carrington Delso, Alexander and William Heard, and Skylar Cross; Great-grandchildren: Kayla and Ethan Haase and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers William and Randolph Heard and sister, Marian Heard. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 pm 11/22 at First Presbyterian Church, 1200 S. Collins St. Arlington, TX, with graveside services at Moore Memorial Gardens, 1219 N. Davis Dr., Arlington, TX and reception afterward. Visitation 6-8 pm Friday at Moore Memorial Garden.
