He grew up in Deport, Texas. He graduated from Deport High School where he played quarterback and linebacker. He served his country well while in the army. He fought bravely in the Korean War. He was awarded The Korean Service Medal with two bronze stars, The United Nations Service Medal, and The Combat Infantry Badge.
He worked for Cigna Insurance Company until his retirement in 1994. Ray loved farming and ranching.
He married Pansy Mayes from Bogata, Texas. They lived in Fort Worth and then Arlington , Texas for the duration of their life together . They had three children : Cathy Higgins, Cindy Eargle and Milton Skaggs. They enjoyed their six grandchildren: Cole Dennis, Jacob Skaggs, Joshua Skaggs, Christian Eargle, Frank Higgins and Elizabeth Eargle. Ray is survived by his sister, Catherine Stewart.
Ray and Pansy loved Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior and are rejoicing in His presence for all Eternity. Glory be to God.

A funeral service for Ray will be held Wednesday, October 4, 2017 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at First United Methodist Church, 313 N Center St., Arlington, Texas. A graveside service will occur Wednesday, October 4, 2017 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Moore Memorial Garden, 1219 North Davis Drive, Arlington, Texas 76012.
