If you ever met Paul, “big” had to be the first adjective that came to mind. Thanks to decades as a self-described gym rat, he was definitely a big dude. However, that adjective described him in so many other ways:
Big shoulders
Big laugh
Big voice
Big believer
Big spender
And most importantly, Big heart.
While tough looking on the outside, he was a softie on the inside, thanks to that big heart. He was fiercely protective of his family and loved them above all things. From his regular phone chats with Granny Ann, to cheering on his kids and guiding them through life’s ups and downs, to the total joy on his face any time a grandchild was mentioned or held or needed PaPa’s help, that soft heart always shined through. He always had time for his family and loved them and pretty much everyone else unconditionally.
Paul was born in Big Spring, Texas and died from a second bout with COVID-19 at far too young of an age. He lived in Arlington, Texas for most of his life and graduated from Lamar High School. After teaching himself the flooring business, he owned his own company for a time and always had an eye out for his next big thing. He was also a Big Christian with a servant’s heart and most recently attended Central Bible Church in Ft. Worth.
Paul was predeceased by his father, Ell McComb and his beloved son, Andrew “Cody” McComb. He is survived by his mother, Ann McComb of Austin along with the lights of his life: daughter, Breanna & son-in-law, Orlando; son, Dillon & daughter-in-law, Chelsea; along with 4 special grandchildren: Riley, Hailey, Kailynn and Luciano. Paul is also survived by his sister, Karen Farabee, brother-in-law, Steve & niece, Sara, of Austin. Also mourning his passing are all of his “Currie cousins” and each of the friends he so easily made throughout his life. Everyone will miss the mischievous twinkle in those blue eyes.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, there will be an immediate family only memorial service held on December 19th. The service will be recorded and made available for anyone wishing to celebrate his life, virtually. Paul’s Facebook page will have more details in the coming days.
For those left behind, Paul would hope that we would take comfort in his favorite Bible verse, Psalms 23:4: Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
With Paul, there were never in-between moments. While he may have failed big at times, he sure lived big and loved even bigger. He wouldn’t have had it any other way. And that’s what made him special.
