Patrick J. Charles, passed away March 21, 2024 at the age of 79. Pat was born May 13,1944 in Brooklyn, NY, a few blocks from Ebbet's Field and his beloved Brooklyn Dodgers. He grew up in Garden City, NY, attended St Leo Junior College in Lakeland, Fl, and graduated with a BS degree from Spring Hill College, Mobile, AL, in 1966. It was there that he met and later married Betty Anne Conti, whom he forever referred to as his best friend.
He was drafted into the US Army in the summer of 1966. At the end of training at Fort Jackson, SC, he was awarded the American Spirit Honor Medal, presented for exhibiting leadership qualities best expressing the American Spirit of Honor, Initiative, Loyalty & High Example to Comrades in Arms. From March 1967 - March 1968, he served in Vietnam as a machine-gunner with the 4th of the 39th, 9th Infantry Division.
Following his discharge from the Army, he & Betty Anne moved to Queens NY and Pat went to work for IBM selling the Selectric typewriter. As his career and technology progressed he would sell word processors, desk tops, personal computers and lap tops. Besides working for IBM, his career landed him with Panasonic, Exxon Office Systems, BusinessLand, Olicom, Tandy, Grid & Toshiba.
Throughout the years he volunteered as a baseball coach for his sons. He taught Religious Ed to high schoolers at Most Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church where he was a Lector for almost 40 years. He served as an Ambassador at DFW airport.
An avid golfer, he was a member of the Arlington Senior Men’s Golf Association and was fortunate enough to have made 2 Holes-In-One.
Pat was preceded in death by his parents, Kathryn & Richard P. Charles, his in-laws, Betty & John Conti, his sisters, Elizabeth Savage, Eileen Owen & Judy Charles. He is survived by his wife, Betty Anne Charles, sons Kevin (Dawn); Matthew & Thomas (Angela). Grandchildren: Hailey, Amber, Nicholas, Lucy, William, Joseph & Patrick. Sister, Mary Jane Charles. Sisters-in-law, Lulu Conti & Patty Conti and brother-in-law, John (Diane Beal) Conti.
Proud of being 100% Irish, he embodied the spirit of a true Irishman, loving his God, family & country. He was a friend to all, a mentor to many and a loving husband, father & grandfather. He will be deeply missed.
The family is very grateful to his special caregiver, Maria; to the nursing staff at Arlington Memorial Hospital, Tender Hearts Hospice & Carebuilders at Home for their guidance & help in caring for Pat.
A Visitation will be held at Moore Funeral Home, 1219 N. Davis Dr., Arlington, Tx 76012, Thursday, April 4, 6pm - 8pm with a Rosary at 7pm. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Most Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 2100 N. Davis Dr., Arlington, Tx. 76012, Friday, April 5, 11am. Followed by a luncheon in the church hall. A private burial will follow.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Patriot Guard Riders (northtxpgr.org), a volunteer organization that provides an escort service for fallen First Responders and Veterans.
