Norman aka “Gary, Brew, Brut” Brewer, 66, born in Arlington, TX on February 17, 1958, battled heart & kidney failure for 6-weeks before succumbing and letting the old man in on March 30, 2024. After living more lives than a cat! Most of us, including him, thought he would just drop dead or would have died after being in multiple car accidents, snake bites, standing in hot coals, being stabbed, throat cancer (by way of round-up), etc. But nope, he drug this out ensuring he is forever embedded in our memories and for us to know our lives will never be the same without him.
Gary was a legend in the HEB area, from the bars to the law. Gary was once told by law enforcement he had a rap sheet longer than a roll of toilet paper & while he paid his dues, he is still known to be active in certain jurisdictions (although a lot of us know he had a badge of his own). Gary would have never thought he fought the law and he won because, that is just not how the song goes! With that being said, Gary wasn’t best known for responsibility or accountability, but he made an impact on multiple people’s lives. Gary lived life on his terms and at the time of his death remained close friends with multiple people from his early teenage days and many more friends (and some enemies) he made along the way. Gary had a heart with room for everyone and was best known to be the life of the party and if there was going to be a good time to be had, he would be there with his boots on (and whatever clothes he had on hand at that time; they may have belonged to you or someone you knew)! Anyone that knew Gary knows he couldn’t stand to be in one place for too long making him a bit of a “traveler” with personal belongings scattered at people’s homes throughout the metroplex. There are so many fun & funny stories that could be told about Gary’s life, it would make for a very entertaining movie. One of those stories he would tell is, he had days when he thought, “oh today I was not so good and if I were to die right now I would go to heaven and God would say “we are going to let you in, but only with hummingbird wings and it is going to be tiring”, so Gary would say,’I better do better tomorrow so I can have big wings like an eagle and soar my way through heaven”. Many believe his good outweighed his bad and he is soaring like an eagle watching over us today. Brace yourselves loved ones in heaven, he is coming in hot, probably singing Jim, Jack, & Hank!
Gary was preceded in death by his father, Don Brewer, step father Tommy Docktor, and niece, Mandy. He is survived by his mother Beverly, brother Duck, sister Venesa, children, Jason, Teresa, & Donnie, and their respective families.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, April 4, 2024 at Moore Memorial Gardens, 1219 N Davis Dr., Arlington, TX 76012 at 10am. A celebration of life will be held at a later date to be determined. In lieu of flowers, please honor Gary with a Coors Light and/or a shot of Crown Royal as that is all he would want from you, for you to have a good time remembering him. “Everybody loves Brewer!”
