Mimi Nelms Perrine was born in Dallas December 17,1944. She was given the name Mimi after her grandmother, and her middle name was given after her mother's maiden name. As a young adult Mimi went to Thomas Jefferson High School, where she met Roger Parker, her first husband and the father of Melissa Nanius and Cecily Marcus. Mimi went to Texas Tech in Lubbock and got her associates degree and stayed in touch with Roger. She came back to Dallas and joined the Dallas Theatre center. She eventually married Roger and they lived in Austin for some time and moved to Dallas soon after. Once their youngest was 5 months old they moved to Houston and she continued to live there 30+ years. She taught her daughters to be self sufficient and independent as well. She always made sure they were taken care of and involved in different activities of their young lives. She and her daughters also belonged to the Pasadena Little Theatre
Mimi worked in many fields, such as sales and marketing, receptionist, and aspiring actress. As the years went by, and as her children grew up, she found the second love of her life Johnny Johnson. They were married for 14 years. During that same time, she devoted her time, talent, and energy at First Presbyterian church of Houston.
Mimi was a major producer of many many plays, skits, and major productions during her time at First Presbyterian of Houston. She shaped the lives of many of the adults and children at the church by teaching them how important the arts were and included her love of the Lord in the message of the plays.
One thing we all know about Mimi was her infectious laugh and smile. She would walk in a room and it would sparkle with her personality. She didn't know a stranger, she knew everyone, and EVERYONE knew her. She would make friends and start conversations where ever she went. She touched the lives of so many people I have lost count. She had a big heart and always made time for you if you needed it. She loved the Lord and helped instill that in the lives she came across. Mimi has always been the life of the party, and the party went with her wherever she went. She was a survivor of many events that happened in her life that she made the best of. In 2005 she got a job at a senior community in Arlington. She was the activities assistant, which was perfect for her. She was again the life of the party and the residents loved her. In 2008 she met and married the volunteer Chaplin of the senior community where she worked, Sheldon Perrine. They were like peas and carrots. She became closer to God than ever before. They have been married for seven fabulous years. We are all so blessed to have had Mimi in our lives because she taught us all to live life to the fullest, take chances, laugh as hard as you never have before, and celebrate life everyday.
Survivors are her husband Chaplain Sheldon Perrine, daughters Melissa Nanius and Cecily Marcus, sons in law Mark Nanius and Jarod Marcus, Granddaughter Lauren Marcus, and many other family members and friends.
