Mike grew up in Arlington and attended Sam Houston High School where he excelled at football and made lifelong friends. In 1977, he enlisted in the United States Navy, where he served on the USS Kitty Hawk, as a photographer. After serving his country, he settled in Arlington and worked for Vought Aircraft for over 20 years.
Mike met Kay on the dance floor at John B’s and they married May 20, 1989. They were happily married for 34 years.
Mike loved golfing and water volleyball. He spent every Sunday, from Memorial Day until Labor Day, hosting volleyball parties for friends and neighbors. He enjoyed woodworking projects and built furniture for many family members. Everyone enjoyed the annual Christmas party. It was a time for laughter, Christmas caroling, and the tradition of seeing Mike dressed in his Scottish Kilt. Mike loved sitting on his patio, listening to talk radio and waving to neighbors as they drove by the house. There was always an open invitation for anyone to stop by and visit.
Mike is survived by his wife, Kay; son, Chad (Jennifer) and daughter, Kristal (Chris); stepchildren, Jack, Jim, Suzanne, and Jeff. He leaves behind grandchildren, Zachary, Sydney, Tyler, Sienna, Ryan, Kailey, and Hayden; and siblings, Gary, Don, and Richard. Mike was preceded in death by his stepson, Jon.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 on Saturday, November 25, at the McMillan Home.
Mike will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. He was a great husband, father, PaPaw, and loyal friend. May he rest in eternal peace.
